KOTOR ... MONTENEGRO !!!

OK, those who follow me have probably noticed I've been gone for almost two months. The reason for this is my road trip through the countries of former Yugoslavia. I apologize to everyone for my absence, but I enjoyed it so much that my lap top was my worst enemy.

Good thing is that I have lots of photos and memories to share with you :)

Well ... let's start!!!!
First stop after Belgrade was Kotor, Montenegro .

KOTOR !!!

Kotor is a coastal town in Montenegro. It's located in a secluded part of the Gulf of Kotor. With the population of 13, 510. Together with the nearly overhanging limestone cliffs of Orjen and Lovćen, Kotor and its surrounding area form an impressive Mediterranean landscape.

The town itself is quiet, the center of the events is the Old Town, above which there is a fortress of San Giovanni.

San Giovanni is impressive ancient building, which extends some 4,5km above the center of the old town, on the almost vertical cliff.

Although it is not the real rock climbing, be prepare to be sweaty and tired.
If you want to go to the top, you have to conquer approximately 1350 steps (1500m).
San Giovanni originates from the Middle Ages, it was built sometime between 9th and 19th century, everyone built it, starting from the Byzantines to the Venetians. Excellently preserved, it's lighted at night, so that's the first thing you see when you see Kotor. In addition to the spectacular views of the old town, as well as the entire Bay of Kotor, you will be very proud of yourself, because trust me on this ... it is not easy to climb up :))))))

Old town compete with the beauty of Dubrovnik. Bordered on all sides by walls and at the back of the high fortress San Giovanni, which fortification walls are starting in the city and continue up to the mountain. The city has three gates: the gate of the sea - the main city gate, Gurdića's gate - Southern Door and Gate River - North door.

Main city gate

The sea doors - are the main city gate, in front of which there are two cannons, guards the main gate. Through the city's main promenade, this door carried out people right at the dock and connecting them to the old town.
Gurdića's doors - this door were once the most important of the three because they are on the road to Budva and Cetinje and were determined with three bands gate. Separated from the mainland by a drawbridge. For river Gurdić is said that the river has no bed, because on rainy days it is practically boiling from the cave hatches, and sea water, which there enters into the bay goes back. During the dry days, the river disappears and its bed meets salt water.
The doors of the River - North doors are made in the Renaissance style and are a symbol of victory over the fleet of Kotor to Turkish admiral Barbarossa Hajrudin from 1539. Above the door there is a plaque on which is engraved the same year Barbarossa besieged city with 200 ships and 30,000 men, but failed to conquer it.

Gurdića's doors

The old town is beautiful. With countless small stone streets, is a labyrinth in which, wherever you turn you come across something new and beautiful. The biggest impression of course leaves the main square on exiting the minute you walk through the main gate. That is where the clock is, and below it, there is the stone of shame.

A night out in Kotor usually begins in some of the many open bars within the walls of old town. As they are not allowed to play music after 1:00AM - the action then moves to some of the night clubs. The best club, without a doubt, is Maximus, located in the old town.

I thought it was wonderful, I enjoyed every moment spent in this city, and I will gladly go back :)
...................................................................................................................................................................

Do samog vrha vodi vas  nekih 1350 stepenika (1500m).

Bedemi same tvrđave počinju u gradu i nastavljaju se u planinu.
