IMOTSKI !!! WONDER OF NATURE !!!

While I was in Dalmatia, I visited the town where my grandfather was born. Imotski is a small town in the Dalmatian hinterland. From Split is less than an hour and a half drive by bus or a car trough incredible landscape. If you choose to go by car from Split, certainly the fastest way to go is the higway, but if you ever come to this area, my recommendation is to take longer route - main dalmatian route, and enjoy the beautiful views of the sea. Maybe it's a longer ride, but believe me it's worth it.

Why you have to visit Imotski?! Imotski is a natural phenomenon, next to the city itself, there are two natural wonders, two lakes, one of which is the Red Lake, one of the deepest lakes in Europe.

Blue Lake is located on the edge of town, right next to the buildings and is 147m deep. The lake is surrounded by a beautiful promenade, by which you can go all the way down to the water. The guidebooks say that one of the things you must do in life, is swimming in a Blue lake in Imotski. I was not so lucky this time, but I will definitely go there again next year and do it.

While you're at the Blue Lake, be sure to take a walk to the fortress 'Topana'. Fortress was under Turkish rule for more than 200 years. Today the fortress is favorite view point, and in the summer it is a host to various cultural events.

Red Lake is one of the deepest in Europe and I can tell you that it is really fascinating with a depth of 280m. It was named after the red rocks, which rise up over him. It's fascinating, but scary. While you look down you think that you can easily throw a rock into the water, but when you try, you realize that it is not quite so.
You can not see how the stone falls into the water, but you definitely hear the horrible creepy sound and echo in the distance. The water from this lake, goes by underground channels  30km to the south and out to sea. Unbelievable, don't you think?

When you are in Imotski, be sure to order the homemade wine. The whole area is covered with vineyards and it's a fantastic feeling ... to drink wine and watch the sunset in such a place.

Voda iz ovog jezera, podzemnim kanalima odlazi  30km južnije i izlazi u more.

Kada ste u Imotskom, obavezno naručite domaće vino. Ceo predeo je pod vinogradima i fantastičan je osećaj piti vino i gledati zalazak sunca na jednom ovakvom mestu.
